CUBA WITH OPEN ARMS

Calle Latina

Featuring work by: Beth Damon

Images taken in October and November 2016 while in western Cuba, including Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Santa Clara, Playa GirĂ³n (Bay of Pigs), Havana, and San Francisco de Paula. Color images were captured digitally, while the black & white prints were recorded on 35mm film and printed in the Callanwolde darkroom by David Damon.

The exhibit reflects Cuba's rich and storied history and heritage through a look at the daily life of Cubans of all walks of life--artisans, dancers, musicians, university professors, restaurateurs, small business owners, workers, taxi drivers, etc. This is an inside look at Cuba not often portrayed in our media. With its high educational standards, affordable healthcare provided to all, and tradition of Afro-Cuban jazz, the essence of Cuba goes beyond its beautiful beaches, delicious food and drinks, and baseball. Cubans are proud of their country, and the exhibit gives you a feel for their lives.

For the full exhibit, stroll between two great restaurant locations in the heart of Decatur: Calle Latina, next to the MARTA station, 406 Church St., open noon to 10pm, and Sweet Melissa's, right in the Decatur square, 404-370-1111, Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2 pm.
