ACP Public Art: Everyday Atlanta

MARTA Red Line

Featuring work by: Everyday Atlanta Instagram Team, Riverwood High School Students, Tri-Cities High School Students

Everyday Africa is an Instagram feed with nearly 300k followers all over the world, started as a response to depictions in western media that told the same African narrative: Famine, poverty, disease and war. As journalists, EA’s founders knew that photography (one of the tools used to create these stereotypes) could be used to tear them down, thus Everyday Africa was born. Everyday Africa’s popularity has given rise to the international "Everyday Projects" umbrella.

Atlanta Celebrates Photography engaged the creators of Everyday Africa to help launch Everyday Atlanta. Working with Tri Cities High School in East Point and Riverwood High School in Dunwoody, students used photography to dispel myths and stereotypes about each other. Meanwhile, the Everyday Atlanta Instagram Team has prepared for the pubic launch of the Everyday Atlanta feed. The culmination of these e orts will exhibited on a MARTA rail car. The Everyday Atlanta project provides a lens through which MARTA riders can examine their assumptions and consider that we have more in common than we do differences.

ACP and Everyday Atlanta (@everyday_atlanta) are proud to be a part of the Everyday Projects family of global instagram feeds working to create dialogue that grows our understanding of the world and each other.

20170926 Update: The ART CAR with the Everyday Atlanta installation will travel at approximately 9:45AM from Lindbergh Station to North Springs Station, where it will pause at the end of the line until around 10:30AM, when it will return to Lindbergh Station. Join us for the round-trip ride!
